However, I would also like to highlight that celebrities in sports and entertainment in fact play an equally essential role in another way. To illustrate, some may argue that it is unfair for sportsmen to be better paid, since they do not provide vital services. Football players, for example, earn enormous salaries by simply kicking a ball. However, such arguments can hold no water, as sports stars not only have dedicated hours of practice to developing their fitness and skills and often struggle with irreversible diseases in their later life but also have raised the fame of their nations by standing out in international games like Olympics. Regarding stars in entertainment, it is their works – movies, shows, or songs – that spice up people’s life especially during the period of lockdown, thus satisfying viewers’ spiritual demands.

Computers are widely used in education and somepeople think teachers are not playing an importantrole in classroom. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

雅思大作文范文:

With more and more extensive use of computers ineducation, some people claim that the importanceattached to teachers has been , computers will replace teachers in theclassroom. However, it seems quite clear to me thatlearning from teachers is the most important waythat cannot be substituted for students.

Naturally, some people maintain that computer should instead of the old way of education. Theyhold that the strong function of the computer offers a new mode of education, which is moreinteresting, more vivid and more acceptable by children. The students will not face to theserious teachers and calm classes any more, which are replaced by a brand-new world offeredby the Internet. In addition, this can decrease the investment on the foundational educationand save the human resources and material resources.

As an assistant, computers do help teachers with their work, but they can never replace theimportant role of a real teacher. The main functions of any computer are storage andcalculation. It cannot think on its own anyway. All the teaching data stored in computers arethe essence of teaching experience generalized by many teachers during their work. Hence, toassist education, what a computer can do is just to repeat the contents summarized by realteachers.

In addition, each student has different talents and different defects, and accordingly, they maycome across various problems during their study. Computer programmer designing thesoftware, however, cannot predict these problems. Therefore, a single computer can neversolve these problems without a teacher’s guidance

Furthermore, if the significance of teacher has been weakened, the number of teachers may bedecreased, that is to say, many teachers may be laid-off. If such a case comes to reality, seriesof social problems will break out, such as the drop of working opportunity which will surelymake the burden of whole society become heavier and heavier.

雅思大作文题目:

Computers are widely used in education and somepeople think teachers are not playing an importantrole in classroom. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

雅思大作文范文:

Computer, as the most powerful tool in 21 century,is widely used in education areas. Whethercomputers can instead of teachers become acontroversial issue. From my point, I don’t thinkcomputers can take the place of teachers.

First and foremost, computer cannot communicatewith students. Every human being has are not only teaching students knowledge but also showing their loves to studentswhen they are teaching. How to have a conversation with others and how to take care ofothers can be learned from teachers. For example, teacher can take you to the hospital whenyou are sick. In comparison, computers cannot likely to it.

Secondly, computers cannot help students when the get confused. Asking teachers is the bestway to do when students get any quires. However, computers do not have this is a two-way process, teachers can excite students’ imaginations and fire their creations.

Last but not least, computers cannot organize teaching activities instead of teachers. TakeEngland as an example, students need to do a lot of practical experiments, especially in physicsand chemistry. When they do these experiments, students usually work together as a groupand discuss with teachers. Team work is a very important part to shape students’ personalities.

From what has been discussed above, we might safely say that computers can never take theplace of teachers. We should always remember that human beings are the host of technologyand computer is a machine no matter how clever it is!

Admittedly, such practice may trigger several repercussions on the natural environment. The most conspicuous one is that it may pose a threat to the local wildlife. This is mainly because an enormous number of industrial facilities will be in use during the process of tapping those remote regions, which may be very likely to wreak havoc on the natural habitats, impacting the air and soil quality and thus rendering the wild animals in jeopardy.// However, behind those problems are a silver lining, which indicates that such hazards can be avoided as long as strict regulation and law about energy exploitation are implemented.

The two bar charts show the percentages of male and female students in secondary and higher education for four different regions in the world.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Sample Answer:

The two bar charts demonstrate the proportions of boys and girls in two broad categories of education in four different regions of the world.

In general, it is apparent that there are more girls than boys in either secondary or higher education across all the four areas, with two exceptions.

In secondary education, Europe has by far the highest percentages of boy and girl students – 95% and 100%, respectively – which are 9 and 5 times that of their peers in Sub-Saharan Africa. The situations in Latin America and East Asia are comparable – between 40% and 50% for both genders. While the former has slightly more girls than boys, the reverse is true for the latter.

Turning to higher education, although Europe still takes the leading position, the percentages among the four regions are quite close to each other. Whereas Europe beats Sub-Saharan Africa by threefold (45% to 15%) in terms of female percentage, there are always a fractionally larger proportion of students, regardless of their gender, in Latin America than in East Asia.

In summary, the number of students tends to shrink dramatically when they are entering higher education. And it seems that developed countries have a significantly higher percentage of male and female students than many developing ones.

Task:Developments of technology are causing environmental problems. Some people think the solution is that everyone accepts a simpler life, while others believe that technology can solve these problems. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Sample answer:

There is no doubt that modern technology has caused a variety of environmental issues, both in cities and towns. Ironically, I feel that technology can address some of these problems but at the same time, personal effort is a must.

Theoretically, addressing some environmental issues by adopting simple lifestyles is sensible. According to the statistics, during the last 100 years, the earth’s surface temperature has risen dramatically because of human activities. Therefore, some people feel that the changes in our lifestyles can reverse this worrying trend. For example, the growing number of vehicles on the road emits a large quantity of green house gases, such as carbon dioxide, which will worsen the air quality. If residents chose other modes of transport, like buses or subways, this serious condition would be alleviated to a large extent. However, in my opinion, this policywould be very unpopular withsome people, especially those living in the suburb, who do need to travel on roads.

While it is undeniable that an individual’s behaviour has a profound effect on the environment, other people argue that the improvement in technology can tackle some problems in turn. For example, the technology today is available to produce electric cars that would be both quieter and cleaner to use. Persuading manufacturers and travellers to adopt this new technology would be a more effective strategy for improving air quality fundamentally.

My own view is that apart from individual effort and environmental friendly technologies, we need to do more, such as introducing related laws and regulations. Environmental problems are so complex that each effort should be combined together to win the battle.

The diagram below shows how solar panels can be used to provide electricity for domestic use.

The picture illustrates the process of producing electricity in a home using solar panels.

It is clear that there are five distinct stages in this process, beginning with the capture of energy from sunlight. The final two steps show how domestic electricity is connected to the external power supply.

At the first stage in the process, solar panels on the roof of a normal house take energy from the sun and convert it into DC current. Next, this current is passed to an inverter, which changes it to AC current and regulates the supply of electricity. At stage three, electricity is supplied to the home from an electrical panel.

At the fourth step shown on the diagram, a utility meter in the home is responsible for sending any extra electric power outside the house into the grid. Finally, if the solar panels do not provide enough energy for the household, electricity will flow from the utility grid into the home through the meter.

The charts below compare the age structure of the populations of France and India in 1984.

The two charts compare the populations of France and India in terms of age distribution by gender in the year 1984.

It is clear that the population of India was younger than that of France in 1984, with a noticeably larger proportion of people aged under 20. France, on the other hand, had a significantly larger percentage of elderly inhabitants.

In India, close to 14% of people were aged 5 or under, and each five-year age bracket above this contained an increasingly smaller proportion of the population. France’s population, by contrast, was more evenly distributed across the age ranges, with similar figures (around 7% to 8% of all people) for each five-year cohort between the ages of 0 and 40. Somewhere between 10% and 15% of all French people were aged 70 or older, but the equivalent figure for India was only 2%.

Looking more closely at gender, there was a noticeably higher proportion of French women than men in every cohort from age 50 upwards. For example, almost 3% of French 70- to 75-year-olds were women, while just under 2% were men. No significant gender differences can be seen on the Indian population chart.

The chart below shows the total number of Olympic medals won by twelve different countries.

The bar chart compares twelve countries in terms of the overall number of medals that they have won at the Olympic Games.

It is clear that the USA is by far the most successful Olympic medal winning nation. It is also noticeable that the figures for gold, silver and bronze medals won by any particular country tend to be fairly similar.

The USA has won a total of around 2,300 Olympic medals, including approximately 900 gold medals, 750 silver and 650 bronze. In second place on the all-time medals chart is the Soviet Union, with just over 1,000 medals. Again, the number of gold medals won by this country is slightly higher than the number of silver or bronze medals.

Only four other countries - the UK, France, Germany and Italy - have won more than 500 Olympic medals, all with similar proportions of each medal colour. Apart from the USA and the Soviet Union, China is the only other country with a noticeably higher proportion of gold medals (about 200) compared to silver and bronze (about 100 each).

Task:Students in school or university learn more from classes of teachers than other resources (eg Internet or TV), do you agree or disagree?

Sample answer:

The updated understanding of study and the cutting-edge technology usher in an era when the students can have a variety of ways to acquire knowledge. Although there are other forms to obtain knowledge and information, I am still the proponent of the belief that students can learn more from their teachers than other resources.

Study, to some degree, is not a one-way input of knowledge, while it is the procedure of mutual interaction between teachers and students. In the conventional teaching and learning mode, the teachers and the students co-exist in an environment where they can have timely interaction. This means teachers can have a more comprehensive and directly understanding of their students’ shortcomings and strong points, which guarantees that students can learn more from the courses that are tailored to their needs.

It is apparent that students can obtain more knowledge from their teachers because teachers do not only function as craftsmen who only impart knowledge but also serves as a supervisor or a guardian. This is especially true in the case where students are less self disciplined and are inclined to go astray without the supervision and guidance of teachers. By comparison, other resources of learning such as Internet and TV sometimes are likely to make the students distracted due to a host of irrelevant information, which will undermine their learning efficiency and make students learn less.

It is also true that students are likely to learn more from other resources. Internet and TV are two media where there are a wealth of knowledge and information ranging from science and humanity. They are also the easily accessible platforms for the students who are in the remote places where the learning resources can hardly challenge the dominant role played by teachers.

To sum up, teachers are still the primary resource from which students gain knowledge, although the influence of other learning resources cannot be underestimated.

Task:Nowadays, most people learn academic study in university, but others think we should encourage to learn vocational skills more, do you agree or disagree?

Sample answer:

There is an upsurge in practical knowledge in these years and people have seen many education courses being totally theory-based. Going to college or learning practical skills, which is better, has been a discussion among public. In my view, the choice really depends on different individuals’ needs and will.

When a student is leaning academic knowledge in university, other skills are also developed. University education will focus on some exceptional abilities like organization, interpretation, evaluation and communication, which can help students to be a well-rounded person. A qualified student should also posses some important skills, such as problems solving and critical thinking.

Learning fixing or construction or something practical like these also sounds reasonable. It is well-recognized that every student has to work after they graduate. They should be equipped with competence which enhances the transition from school to work. Besides, an excellent student learner is admittedly important to society, but more important is his or her productivity. However, college education focuses more on theoretical knowledge instead of practical abilities, which distances learners from the real life.

My view is that this choice is according to different people’s needs and will. For instance, if a doctor spends 3 years in practicing medicine, his experience will be more than his peers who stay in college after they graduate. Also, in our society, a doctor’s reputation is based on his skills and doctors, practical skills are more important. However, it may be better to pursue further education for a philosopher until he gets a doctor degree. Meanwhile, different people have different wills to do different things, which means they can do the personal choice for themselves.

Overall, I think the choice is quite personal and people will make the best decision based on their conditions.

Task:The charts below describe the numbers of people per household of an European country in 1995 and 2005.

Sample answer:

The pie charts illustrate how the number of persons in every household varied in an European country in years of 1995 and 2005.

Data provided for 1995 show that the percentage of two persons per household was the highest, at 31% which was similar to that of three people in a household ( 30%). Over the next ten years, the figure for two people per household kept almost the same while increased by 5% for three people, making it the biggest share of the pie.

Regarding to the proportion of one person and six persons per household, it both declined to 2% and 3% respectively during the ten-year period. On the contrary, although there were only 8% of people who lived in a household with five persons in 1995, the figure soared to 15% in 2005. The similar percent of citizens lived in a household with four persons in the same period.

In conclusion, it can be seen that two or three persons per household was the most common no matter in 1995 or 2005.

Topic:The increase in the production of consumer goods results in damage to the natural environment. What are the causes of this? What can be done to solve this problem?

Sample answer:

The high demand of consumer goods has led to the depletion of natural resources as well as environmental degradation. How to reverse this situation should be paid more attention and both the government and individuals should take responsibility for this.

The past decades have witnessed the expansion of human population, which results in the ever-growing requirement for various products such as food, clothing. Not only does this cause the decrease of natural resources, but also contributes to environmental deterioration. An example of this is that people cut down more trees for disposable chopsticks and furniture, leading to deforestation in many areas. This further causes some problems like soil, erosion, droughts and change in temperature.

Another reason is that people lack environmental awareness. Otherwise, they would not live a throw-away life and cause some avoidable waste or pollution. A large number of people have not yet realized the importance of recycling, nor are they conscious of the households appliances can end up in landfill sites and these non-biodegradable products can have a destructive effect on the environment.

To cope with this problem, governments should firstly try to raise public's awareness for environmental protection and recycling. Besides, they should also invest heavily in some renewable energy resources such as nuclear, solar or wind energy. Meanwhile, ordinary people should make an effort to consume less and recycle more and classify rubbish in order to reduce the damage of waste.

To sum up, the increase of world population and insufficient environmental consciousness are associated with the issue stated. And to combat with it, every member in the society should take actions.

The bar graph shows the global sales (in billions of dollars) of different types of digital games between 2000 and 2006.

The bar chart compares the turnover in dollars from sales of video games for four different platforms, namely mobile phones, online, consoles and handheld devices, from 2000 to 2006.

It is clear that sales of games for three out of the four platforms rose each year, leading to a significant rise in total global turnover over the 7-year period. Sales figures for handheld games were at least twice as high as those for any other platform in almost every year.

In 2000, worldwide sales of handheld games stood at around $11 billion, while console games earned just under $6 billion. No figures are given for mobile or online games in that year. Over the next 3 years, sales of handheld video games rose by about $4 billion, but the figure for consoles decreased by $2 billion. Mobile phone and online games started to become popular, with sales reaching around $3 billion in 2003.

In 2006, sales of handheld, online and mobile games reached peaks of 17, 9 and 7 billion dollars respectively. By contrast, turnover from console games dropped to its lowest point, at around $ billion.

Some people believe that the majority of artists earn low salaries and hence government funding is necessary for them to continue with their profession. I strongly disagree with this statement because of the reasons mentioned below.

Most of the talented artists are earning good salary. In any field of art, hardworking and skilful artists have successful life with enough fame and money. More specifically, actors, painters, writers and dancers are getting good remuneration for their performance. Paintings of good painters are sold for a great deal of money. It is well known to the public that dancers and actors lead highly luxurious lives.

Government funding is not at all required for these artists. Most of the artists are leading good standard life compared to many other people in the society. In other words, there are many sections of people who are really poor and actually need some help from the government to meet their basic needs such as food, clothes and education. For example, there are many people who do not have a proper house to stay in. Road workers and construction workers are earning low wages. There are many families where there are sick males who are unable to do any job. So, the government should give its help and support to these poorer sections of the society.

Another argument against giving financial aid to artists is that most of them have some sort of university education. So if they are not able to earn as much as they want, they can do some other job to supplement their income.

In conclusion, artists are getting enough income and government support is not mandatory for them. Therefore I strongly disagree with the statement.

Task:In some countries, secondary school aims to provide a general education across a range of subjects. In others, children focus on a narrow range of subjects related to a particular career. Which do you think is appropriate in today’s world?

Sample answer:

What range of subjects the high school offers can have a stark and profound influence on students’ future development. I, to be honest, hold the view that the general education with a wide range of subjects is beneficial to students themselves in the long run.

If students have access to more courses, they are likely to have more opportunities to choose the subject they prefer or are better at. In this way, the students can learn with more enthusiasm and passionate and will feel less bored with their classes. With more motivation derived from their inner hearts, students can give full play to their potentials and achieve better academic performance.

Besides, the more diverse subject system can also cultivate more well-rounded students. The knowledge base of different subjects is distinct from each other, which can help to foster the students in certain perspective. Mathematics and physics are helpful to students’ logic and abstract thinking; some humanity subjects such as literature and aesthetics can enhance students’ capabilities of appreciation and judgment. There is no doubt that students will become more versatile if they have grasped knowledge of different subjects.

It is also true that focusing on the narrower range of subjects can bring some benefits to some extent. Students can concentrate more on limited subjects and are more likely to become the specialist in certain fields. Youyou TU, the Nobel Prize winner in medicine, receives specialized education in TCM and chemistry and devotes all her life to the research of the anti-malaria medicines, making her become a world-renowned scientist.

To sum up, a general education with wilder range of subjects should be accessible to students because of its benefits to a sounder development of students.

In the year 1780, a river that ran/went along the north-south direction stretched through the western periphery/edge of the village. Immediately to its east was a vast expanse/plot/tract of farmland where farmers engaged in agricultural activities. The northeastern corner of the village was occupied by residential buildings that accommodated around 100 families. Overlooking from the homes to the south lay a sprawl of woods that took up almost a quarter of the land area of the village.

By the year 1860, significant/tremendous changes had taken place in the layout of settlements in the village. A bridge was built over the river, facilitating the communications and interactions between people on either side of the river. The area of farmland was halved to give way to the construction of a new road linking the river bank to the homes, whose number also doubled over the span of 80 years to 200. The tract of woodland was also significantly reduced, giving rise to vast areas of open, unused land.

The village indicated clear, visible signs of modern infrastructure in the year 2000. The population increased by nearly twofold, attaining 500. On the previously open land erected schools and sports fields for children to receive education and play sports. A new road was set up to make the travel between residential areas and schools more convenient. What's more, a line/stretch of shops was established along the eastern river bank in the downstream, heralding the advent of a commercial era. More impressively, a wetland formed at the southern end of the river, providing a shelter for birds in the region that retained the last vestige of the pristine nature amidst the full force of modernization elsewhere.

Other people feel that it is important to rest the mind during leisure time.

You should write at least 250 words.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

model answer:

It is generally accepted that we all need leisure time to recover from the stresses of work and everyday , I prefer to be active during this time, as I think this suits me better. However, what we do with our leisure time is up to us and no one can say that any particular activity is the best.

Some people relax by watching movies, reading or surfing the internet. People who have physically demanding jobs may choose these types of activities. If you are a nurse or builder, you may feel that you don't want to do a five-kilometre run after work, because you are already physically tired.

Other people do very sedentary jobs. Computer analysts, for example, may spend all day sitting in front of a computer screen. At the end of the working day, they may be keen to stretch their limbs and improve their health by swimming or going to the gym.

Another factor that influences our choice of leisure pursuit is whe...

Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment; only governments and large companies can make a difference. To what do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, an increasing number of people are concerned about environmental protection and regard it as one of the most important challenges. However, whether only governments and big firms have resources and powers to preserve our environment is a controversial issue. My view is that every single citizen could also make a huge difference.

In the first place, it is clear that it is human activities that have the greatest impact throughout the history. Both environment contamination and conservation are the long-term process, and no single government or big company can meet this challenge alone. So whoever created the problem should be responsible for solving it; environment protection needs every one of us to continuously participate in.

Moreover, the public’s wills and behaviors have critical influence on government’s policies and companies’ strategies. For example, if everyone says “no” to plastic shopping bags and paper cups, the companies that manufacture such products will switch to environmental-friendly substitutes in order to survive in the market.

However, that is not to say that governments and large companies cannot positively contribute. Indeed, governments can enact laws and introduce programs to raise the public’s low-carbon awareness; companies can promote green products to change the public’s consuming habits. But they also need every citizen’s appreciation and support to bring good results.

In sum, no effort is too small when we are protecting the environment. Meanwhile, local authorities and organizations must shoulder their responsibility to develop low-carbon economy at the macro level. Only by doing so can we assure that we could hand this beautiful planet to our next generation and the next generation after.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.

model answer:

In this analysis we will examine three pie charts. The first one is headed 'World Spending.' The second is 'World Population' and the third is 'Consumption of Resources.'

In the first chart we can see that people spend most of their income (24%) on food. In some countries this percentage would obviously be much higher. Transport and then housing are the next major expenses at 18% and 12% respectively. Only 6% of income is spent on clothing.

In the second chart entitled 'World Population', it is not surprising to find that 57% of people live in Asia. In fact China and India are two of the most populated countries in the world and they are both situated on this continent. Europe and the Americans account for nearly 30% of the total, whilst 10% of people live in Africa.

Finally, the third chart reveals that the USA and Europe consume a huge 60% of the world's resource.

To sum up, the major expenditure is on food, the population figures are the highest for Asia and the major consumers are the USA and Europe.
