一、引言

二、思辨能力与议论文的关系

思辨能力体现在议论文的立论和论据中，思辨性差，不仅提炼的观点没有深度，而且议论时不能反映事物的本质。文秋芳和刘润清（2006）在分析大学生抽象思维特点时用到的材料也是英语议论文，他们认为议论文是我国英语写作中最常见的一种文体，而且议论文比记叙文和说明文对思维的要求更高。根据（2011）对思辨能力的定义，思辨能力包括六种认知能力（cognitive skills）：阐释、分析、评价、推理、解释和自我调节。每种认知能力又可细解成多个具体的子技能。Facione（2011）在文章中对阐释（interpretation）的解释包括对信息的分类，解释和澄清。信息包罗万象，可以是以往的经历或经验、不同的情境、数据、事件，也可以是个人的判断、习俗、信念，或者是某种规则、过程、评判标准等等。分析（analysis）在文章中解释为证实各种说法、问题、概念、描述或者用来表达信仰、判断、经验、论据、信息或观点的各种表现形式之间的潜在的和能实际推论得出的关系。这一思辨技能的子技能为分析观点，分析论据和证实论据。评价（evaluation）就是评估某些说法和表现形式的可靠性。这种表现形式可以是某人的直觉、经验、情况、判断、信仰或观点的描述。评价还包括评估各种说法、描述、问题或其他表现形式之间潜在的和能实际推论得出的逻辑关系。它所包含的子技能有评价说法和论据。推理（inference）的过程包括三方面内容：证实用来得出合理结论的要素；形成假设；考虑相关的信息，并从数据、说法、原理、证据、判断、信仰、观点、概念、描述、问题或其他的表现形式中推断出结果。它包括质疑论据、判断选择、得出结论。解释（explanation）表现为将推理的结果以一种具有说服力的完整的方式呈现出来。它包括表明理由、摆出论据、证明过程三个子技能。自我调节（self-regulation）被解释为自觉地监查认知活动和在认知活动中使用到的要素及其推断出的结论。它包括自我检查和自我纠正。这些思辨能力在议论文的写作过程中都得到了体现。写作议论文前，学生在搜集资料阶段会用到阐释技能。面对庞杂的资料，学生需要根据自己的判断对它们进行分类整理，以备写作之用。同时，在对搜集到的材料整理归类时，需要运用评估的技能对众多的材料进行去芜存真。分析技能贯穿于写前准备、写中和写后反馈的全过程。学生在采用纷繁复杂的信息之前需要辨明、分析这些材料，才能让材料为己所用。在小组讨论中，也需要学生运用分析技能来评判同伴的资料；在写作过程中，更需学生分析材料来论证观点；在写后的反馈中，需要学生回顾分析写作过程的每个步骤，才能发现问题来改进。学生在各种论据的基础上运用推理得出自己的结论，这也是个解释论证的过程。学生写完后运用自我检测的技能，以读者的身份来看待自己的文章，能更加客观而且清晰地分析论据是否充分有效，论证是否有序合理，从而可以相对应地来改进自己文章。因此，议论文的整个写作过程能很好地诠释Facione所定义的思辨能力，用议论文写作来锻炼学生的思辨能力有了理论基础。

三、突出思辨能力的议论文写作实践

因为实验学生是非英语专业的三类本科学生，学生进校时的英语基础不是很好，因此在参照了各种写作标准和要求后，根据本班学生的水平，笔者设计了写作实践的六个步骤。为避免学生写作时无话可写，写作前需要学生进行充分的准备；并有资料讨论的环节让学生进一步分析选择材料；正式成文时，课上给学生20分钟，完成字数不少于250字的议论文；文章完成后，同伴互评是对文章的初次检验，同时也能锻炼学生的评价能力；之后学生在同伴修改意见基础上完成定稿；最终学生完成一个写后反馈表，建立起写作和思辨能力培养的关系。写作训练的目标在训练之初就很明确地告知学生，是为了培养思辨能力，并向学生讲解思辨能力的含义，以期学生能有意识地运用和锻炼思辨能力。步骤一：资料收集。写前的准备阶段，一般都会在正式上写作课前两天给学生布置好找资料的任务。为了让议论文的主题能唤起学生以往的知识和经验，每次议论文选取的话题都是和学生生活息息相关或者是社会上讨论得比较热的话题。学生在课前需要做一个调查，包括话题的热度、人们对话题的看法和话题对人们的影响，调查设计可以由学生自主安排，并对搜集到的信息进行归纳整理。资料来源不限，但都需要注明出处。步骤二：资料讨论。做好这些课前准备之后，正式写作课会利用三个课时来完成这一篇文章。第一个课时，学生以小组为单位阐述自己搜集到的资料，讨论并评价其他小组成员的资料，根据讨论结果对自己的材料进行补充或者删除。这一过程持续20分钟，在这个过程中，学生会得到很多来自不同视角的信息，而且会获得较多认同。学生在小组讨论过程中，分析判断的能力得到增强，眼光变得锐利，思路变得清晰，看待问题的角度也不再单一。步骤三：写作过程。在学生做了充分的写前准备之后，此时的写作已经是水到渠成的事了。结束前面的讨论后，第一课时剩下的时间留给学生正式写作。给学生20分钟的时间，将写前讨论的结果完整地用作文的形式呈现出来。步骤四：同伴互评。作文写完后，首先在小组内进行互评，每个组员的作文都要经过小组讨论。学生根据一份详细的问题清单来看同伴的作文是否符合这一系列要求。问题包括论点是否清晰，论据是否充足，例子是否恰当，结论是否合理等基本标准。每一次作文的问题清单都不尽相同，除了这些基本标准外，根据每一次作文不同的内容特点，适当增加一些具体的评价标准。互评结束后，学生将集体讨论的意见写在作文后面。每个小组有六至八人，这个过程会较长，一般持续30分钟。步骤五：修改作文。学生根据同伴互评的结果，总结吸收大家的意见，提出修改方案。学生也可以坚持自己的意见，但必须陈述自己的理由。学生有15分钟时间将修改方案或者理由写在同伴互评意见后面，并且完成修改稿。步骤六：写后反馈。最后，每个学生利用写作反馈表（见表1）来回忆自己的写作过程，以此来建立起写作与思辨能力的关系。在表格中，学生需要列出自己各个写作阶段所用到的思辨技能，并给出例子或例句。比如有学生说他在搜集资料的时候会用到分类、整理这样的技巧。这个环节主要是让学生梳理整个写作过程，回顾整个思考过程，以客观的态度来发现和看待整个过程中值得借鉴或可以改进的地方

一、什么是构词法?

构词法就是按照语言规律创造新词的方法，主要有派生法、合成法、转化法和缩略法。

1、派生法

一般来说，词根的字面意思就等于单词的实用意义，那么我们只要记住了词根的字面意思，从单词中辨认出词根，再通过掌握一定的词缀的意思，我们就能理解并记住这个单词。

词的前缀和后缀可以和词根一起构成意义丰富、具体的各种词类的单词，比如前缀self-，可以加在名词、形容词或分词的前面。

2、合成法

合成法是指由两个或两个以上的词干或独立的词组组合起来构成新词的方法，也叫复合法。主要有三种：复合词、结合词和合成语派生词。我们来看具体的例子：

语言是人类活动的思维载体，是思维的外在表现。同样，思维也离不开语言，没有语言，思维无法形成。连淑能（2002：39―40）认为：“思维方式是沟通文化与语言的桥梁……思维方式的差异正是造成文化差异的重要原因。”因此很多语言现象的产生原因应从思维与语言的关系中去寻找。

而中国学生普遍面临着的一个问题即英语写作水平特别是议论文的写作水平不高。

因此中国学生如果想要写出地道的英语议论文，首先应该对西方的思维模式有所了解，在此基础上学习、模仿优秀的英语议论文范文，才能写出地道、有特色的英语议论文。

一、中西思维方式差异

1螺旋式与直线型（linear）思维

Robert Kaplan（1996：16）认为，包括汉语在内的东方语言的语段发展模式是不断扩展的螺线型，弧线围绕着主题，却不直接触及主题，往往到最后才点明主题。与此相反，英语语段呈直线形式发展，语段多以主题句开始，主题句提出本段的中心内容，后接辅助句，逐步展开说明主题句的具体内容，其间不附加其他与主题没有直接关系的内容。

2主观性与客观性思维

3形象与逻辑思维

中国人习惯于形象思维，注重感悟、讲究含蓄。因此汉语议论文大多先罗列种种事例、论据、原因、背景等，最后表明观点；或将观点隐含于事实、论据中。而英美人注重逻辑思维，强调运用严谨的语法结构和逻辑连接词进行论证；英语议论文主要是先概括，后细节；先抽象，后具体；先综合，后分析。

4整体与分析性思维

中国人认为世界是万物联系的整体，对于事物的分析不仅局限在事物本身，更要顾及其所在的整体。西方思维认为世界由无数个有自己个性与特点的个体组成。所以表现在语言文字上，汉语重意合，以意驱形；英语重形合，以形制意。“意合”意味着“造句注重意念连贯，不求结构齐整，句子以意役形，以神统法，因而流泻铺排，采用的是散点句法”；“形合”意味着“造句注重形式连接，要求结构完整，句子以形寓意，以法摄神，因而严密规范，采用的是焦点句法”（连淑能，1993：46）。

二、《大学英语精读》议论文分析《大学英语精读》是一套由上海外语教育出版社出版的系列丛书，是目前很多高职院校使用的教材。对于非英语专业的学生而言，《大学英语精读》是其英语语言输入的重要来源，因此本文将分析《大学英语精读》中精选的议论文是否具有上述特点，能否从这些文章中看出中西议论的差异。此外，高职院校很多非英语专业学生大多都只能上完第一、二册，所以文章以这两册的议论文为分析对象。《大学英语精读》第一册、第二册共有4篇议论文体的文章，包括第一册 Unit 4 Turning off TV：A Quite Hour，第二册Unit 6 The Making of a Surgeon，Unit 8 Honesty： Is it Going out of Style，Unit 10 Profits of Praise。
