渴求人才的徐悲鸿不愿意放弃。尽管他的日程很紧，但他还是打理好了自己的家，顶着风雨来到了这里。他再次表达了他的爱和真诚而迫切的邀请。齐白石感动的时候解释了“命难从”的真正原因:“年老体弱，是因为老木匠没上过学，台上的教授缺乏经验，怕老师批评，怕调皮的学生闹，连课都上不完。”

“齐先生的担心不无道理，但似乎没有必要。”徐悲鸿诚恳地说:“教授的资格在于他的真才实学，不考虑出身。难道有些留在国外的人不是白活了吗？齐先生将传统写意与民间绘画相结合，艺术风格独特。不仅可以教学生，还可以教我徐悲鸿。”

“不敢，不敢，徐院长太谦虚了。”齐白石挥挥手。

“是这样，不算太谦虚。”徐悲鸿随后向他保证，“齐老师上课不用长篇大论，做个绘画示范，给点提示就行了。开学的时候，我陪你上课，护送你。以防有一些学生不守纪律。”

齐白石是发自内心的感动，最后点点头:“那就试试。”

开学那天，徐悲鸿亲自坐着马车把齐白石带到学校，把齐白石高超的造诣恭敬地介绍给全体师生。他还说，他会“护送”齐白石旅行。考虑到齐白石确实老了，徐悲鸿也给了很多当事人照顾:冬天天气冷了之后，在讲台边给他一个火炉；夏天，他得到了一个电风扇。刮风下雨，我们派车接送。可谓一丝不苟。

长期以来，人们都注意到了身体下降的问题。在伽利略之前，古希腊亚里士多德的理论认为物体下落的速度不同。它的下落速度与其重量成正比，物体越重下落越快。例如，一个重十公斤的物体比一个重一公斤的物体下落速度快十倍。

一千七百多年来，这种违背自然规律的理论，在书本上，在学校的讲台上，被当作圣经来讲，没有人敢怀疑。这是因为亚里士多德提出了“地球中心论”，符合奴隶主和封建统治阶级的利益。因此，亚里士多德的其他理论得到了保护。

年轻的伽利略没有被这个怪物吓倒。他根据自己的经验推理，大胆质疑亚里士多德的理论。他想，也是一磅重的东西，自然以同样的速度下落。但是，如果把两个一磅重的东西绑在一起，或者把一百个一磅重的东西绑在一起，那么按照亚里士多德的理论，它们有可能比一磅重的东西下落的速度快两倍或者九十九倍。他决心亲自试一试。

【名人故事8:陈景润的故事】

国际知名数学家陈景润，备受人们推崇。但是，他并没有感到自满，而是把一切功劳归于祖国和人民。为了维护祖国利益，他牺牲了个人名利。

1977年的一天，陈景润收到一封国外来信，是国际数学家联合会主席写给他的，邀请他参加国际数学家大会。3000人出席了会议，他们都是世界著名的数学家。任命十位数学家做学术报告，陈景润就是其中之一。这对于一个数学家来说是莫大的荣誉，对于提升陈景润的国际知名度也大有裨益。

陈景润没有提出好的主张，而是立即向研究所党支部汇报，请求党的指示。党支部再次向科学院报告了这一情况。科学院党组织对此问题持谨慎态度，因为中国在国际数学家联合会的席位一直被台湾省占据。

医院领导回答:“你是数学家，党组织尊重你的个人意见，你可以自己给他回信。”

经过慎重考虑，陈景润终于决定放弃这个难得的机会。他在给国际数学家联盟主席的回信中写道:“首先，我国一贯重视发展与世界其他国家的学术交流和友好关系。我个人感谢国际数学家联盟主席的邀请。第二，世界上只有一个中国，唯一能代表中国人民利益的是_，台湾省是_不可分割的一部分。因为台湾省目前占据中国国际数学家联盟的席位，所以我不能参加。第三，如果中国只有一个代表，我可以考虑参加这个会议。”为了维护祖国的尊严，陈景润牺牲了个人利益。

1979年，应普林斯顿高等研究院邀请，陈景润赴美国进行短期研究访问。普林斯顿学院条件很好。为了充分利用这么好的条件，陈景润挤出了所有能省的时间，努力工作，连午饭都不回住处。有时候他出去开会，酒店很吵，就躲在卫生间里继续研究工作。因为他的努力，在美国短短的五个月里，除了开会和讲课，还完成了论文《算术级数中的最小素数》，一下子把最小素数从80推到了16。这一研究成果也是当时世界上最先进的。

在美国这样一个物质发达的国家，陈景润在国内依然保持着节俭的作风。他每个月能从研究所拿到2000美元，可以说是相当丰厚了。每天中午，他从不去研究所的餐厅，那里很精致，他可以享受，但他总是吃他带来的干粮和水果。他非常节俭，在美国住了五个月，除了房租、水电等1800美元外，只花了700美元买吃的和其他开销。当他回来时，他总共存了7500美元。

在古代中药中，曹彤和三叶木通经常被混淆或视为一个事物。李时珍以认真负责的科学态度纠正了前人的这个错误。《神农本草曹彤》和《本草纲目》被解释为五代南唐时期陈仕良《饮食习惯本草》的木传。石真曰:“有细孔，两端相连，故称曹彤，今称慕童。今之曹彤，乃古通脱木也，宋本杂注为一，今分离”。他在“集体解决”一项中做了进一步详细的解释，说“它的枝桠现在叫木杆，颜色有紫白色，皮紫的粗而刺鼻，皮白的细而淡。这本书的字泼辣，字甜，意思是两者都有利。”

At the beginning of this term, I made a plan for my study. Now, I find that I carry it out well in the past month. I was poor in Chinese and English last semester. Therefore, I put the two subjects in the priority and I spent much time on them. Happily, I made progress in the two subjects this semester. Besides, math and physics is not so hard for me, but I must do many exercises to improve my knowledge. Half of an hour for each is necessary and I have always been doing so. The other subjects are easy for me. As long as I carefully listen to the teacher in the class and do some reviews, I can do well in them. While, it does not mean that I attach no importance to them. I make plan for my study to ensure the efficiency of my study.
