托福小作文真题范文 第一篇

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Games are as important for adults asthey are for children. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

范文:

The young of most mammals, including humans, like to play. Scientists claim that with lions, forexample, play fighting prepares the cubs for their future life as a hunter and killer. The question iswhether games and play teach humans about life. Many people believe that games accustom theplayer to life-skills such as perseverance and competitiveness.

However, I disagree with the title statement because I consider games to be mainly for children. Inchildhood, we do not have responsibility for the world. The child is always eager to grow up -tobecome a year older t or to reach the legal age of an adult. Children find happiness in games bypretending to be an adult in the real world. The problem is that games are optional; they containtoo much happiness and too little hardship to ever be real. An adult, by contrast, finds meaning inhis life by accepting that there are greater things in the world than his own happiness.

One of the dangers of games is that some people attempt to translate the rules of a game ontoreality. The modern example of this problem is television and computer games. People in the Westare now growing concerned that children and teenagers occasionally imitate violence which theysee on the screen.

Death is fun on a computer game; and unstable teenagers who “zap” people in computer gamescan forget the value of life. American films are often accused of making violence glamorous. This is not to say that games did not deceive people before the invention of television and themicrochip. Success as a sports-star can lead a player to self-importance. If a football player ismade captain of his team and receives praise from the local press, he might be tempted to assumethat he is “the boss” in other areas of his life, such as within friendships. Also, he might besurprised to find that sport is simply not important.

Finally, gambling should also be mentioned as a dangerous game. Although gambling and theacceptance of luck are acceptable features of many cultures, a selfish gambler can neglect hisfinancial duties towards his family. Eventually, gambling can become a drug which destroys life.To an extent, life for most people is precarious enough to include some degree of winning andlosing, and of adventure. Also, an unexpected opportunity or lucky find is one of the joys of life. But sooner or later we have to settle down and face the grind of adult life.

托福小作文真题范文 第三篇

Some people prefer to work for themselves or own a business. Others prefer to work for an employer. Would you rather be self-employed, work for someone else, or own a business? Use specific reasons to explain your choice.

范文:

There are many advantages for people to work for themselves and have their own business. Forexample, you don't need to worry about getting up too late for work; you don't need to worryabout the relationship between you and your boss; you may go to work at any time you want, because you are the boss of your own business. You may lead a more spontaneous and free-stylelife. In spite of this, personally, I would like to work for someone else.

No matter what kind of business you own, a domestic or international company, or a small onelike a snack shop, you have to take care of many things such as a license, rent, your personnel, your competitors, product-market, even the weather if you own an umbrella shop.

That is what I don't like. I don't like a complicated life. I mean, I am just a normal female whohasn't much ambition either in my life or in my career. I am used to having a simple life, a regularlife with discipline, without much risk. What is most important for me, besides work, is that I canstill have free time the things I enjoy doing, and don't need to think about the business all the time. For me, being a business owner might have too much risk and stress.

Of course, being an employee, you are subject to discipline, and pay attention to your boss, butthat's a part of life, just like for others, paying attention to their own business, earning a lot ofmoney, and having risk are parts of their lives.

In a phrase, I would rather to work for someone else. I just want to have my own simple andregular life!

现在有一些学校require children(5-11岁) to work together instead of working on their own during most of their learning process, do you agree or disagree that is the best way to teach children?

托福写作模板及参考答案:

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Many schools require young children (aged 5-11) to work together in a small group instead of working alone to learn man activities.

Educators and researchers have never stopped the examination of the importance and relevance of collaborative learning that are encouraged by middle schools. When compared with studying alone, I, personally, believe that it is far more beneficial to students when working in groups for the following reasons.

First off, working in a group can be very conducive for students since they can help students to study more effectively and thus tackle real-world issues. A recent study conducted by University of Minnesota backed up the claim that study teams, collaborative learning and group projects are far more effective in helping students to develop useful skills than traditional teacher-led teaching approach. In fact, when learning in groups, students have to do some research about the topic they are expected to discuss beforehand, which helps them to clear up some misunderstandings and boast their enthusiasm in academic exploration. Clearly, working in a group can help students to retain information for a much longer time and have a much deeper understanding of some concepts and ideas. Consequently, if teachers categorize students and organize them in small study groups, chances are that they would solve complex issues together, like researching the history of the city, examining the water quality of the local town, so on and so forth. Students can develop critical thinking skills as well as learn to collect and analyze information from multiple sources.

Additionally, working in groups has much deeper implications beyond students’ academic experience. As the saying goes: “many hands make light work”. Actually it remains as relevant today as it did a century ago. To be more specific, working together helps to develop skills like cooperation, organization and leadership. When learning in a group, every single student gets a chance to contribute their knowledge to the group, and they can learn to appreciate the work of other students simultaneously as well. What’s more, they have to work closely with others for the same goal otherwise they might not be able to compete with other study groups. More importantly, students will get exposure to distinctive perspectives and at the same time learn how to accept different points of view and find common ground in this process. Such an educational experience will not only be helpful for their future study but also beneficial to them when they have to deal with coworkers, clients, and teammates in a professional setting in the future. Numerous studies have shown that students who have prior experience working with others enjoy a better chance to be successful in their future career.

In conclusion, working together in a group has far more meaningful implications than working alone since collaborative learning helps students to learn much more effectively and develop important skills that are vital for their future study and career.

Under the current system of higher education, with the majors becoming increasingly diverse, how to choose an appropriate major has never failed to attract the attention of the general public. Most parents strongly recommend that it is much better to choose a major which can guarantee a good job, while college students, the receiver of higher education, tend to choose the field which caters to their interest. As far as I am concerned, the latter viewpoint is more reasonable, with the reasons listed below.

First of all, selecting the major that students like can help them to grasp the knowledge better. Just as a saying goes, interest is the best teacher, which is true of undergraduates. To illustrate, under the drive of interest, students are more likely to automatically devote more time and energy into what they major in, thus definitely having a better command of professional knowledge and skills imparted by teachers. By contrast, without any interest in what they are taught, college students who generally lack in self-motivation may do anything but study in class. For instance, on campus in China, it is not uncommon to see that many students squander their valuable time by taking a nap, whispering or even playing smart phones while attending the class. What's worse, some of them may even skip classes. The reason underlying the above phenomenon is nothing but lack of passion for what they learn.

Secondly, choosing a major students are interested in can do a better job in helping them secure a good job. As we all know, with the constant change and progress of society, the job market is also changing quickly. In other words, some promising industries a few years ago might very well become obsolete, which means that the major one chooses cannot necessarily guarantee a good job. By contrast, under such a society full of fierce competition, it is the professional skills and abilities people own that play the key role in landing a decent job. Obviously, only when people select the field they have passion for can they establish a solid foundation of specific knowledge and skills in this field. Therefore, the major catering to one's interest can better improve his or her competence, thus increasing their likelihood of securing a decent job.

Taking all the above into consideration, we can draw the conclusion that choosing the major which interests students is much better, in terms of making undergraduates have a better command of what they major in and find a suitable job.
