Nowadays, there are several channels to get news, such as radio, TV, newspaper and internet. I think internet is the best among these. In my essay, I am going to explain why.

Since its invention, the Internet has been keeping booming as a prospective industry. Not only because it is a combination of texts, audios and videos, but also due to its convinience. It has threatened the domination of spreading news of the traditional media, and, I would say, is about to take control.

We can find everything we want on internet – latest news, books, songs, movies, cartoons… whatever. With radio, we can merely hear. Compared with newspaper, radio and TV can provide the lastest information. For instance, it was immediately availalbe of the breaking news of the Americans’ attacking on Iraq, as well as that the Twin Towers of New York were destroyed on September 11, 2001. __ However, we just cannot carry TV 24/7.

Internet is a convinient way of getting information, as long as your mobile phone is connected or you possess a laptop. When I am on a vehicle, I usually have my cellphone connected to internet, then browse what happend in the past few hours, or log in MSN to begin a conversation with my friends. Reading newspaper is also a good way to kill time, but for me, a youngster, it is not so modern as “surfing online while being transported”.

The traditional media will never disappear, though internet has taken a big advantage in the competition. And definitely, there is still a long way for internet to go. Anyway, internet benefits me the most, and I highly appreciate it.

Nowadays, technological advances and their rapid and wide applications are having a significant impact on a nation's traditional skills and ways of life. Some argue that such impact is so extraordinary that it would make conventional skills and life styles obsolete. However, I believe they would continue to thrive by providing alternatives to modern ways of life, and innovative ideas for modern technologies.

First of all, traditional skills and ways of life are becoming an alternative solution to the problems caused by “mainstreamed” ways of life which are greatly influenced by modern technologies. For instance, a cozy restaurant where traditional, home-brewed beer is served, offers another experience to people who are bored with branded beers that have the same flavor and come out of mass production with new technologies. It is in such a venue where traditional skills are preserved, people become relaxed and educated. Providing diversity and thus enriching modern ways of life, such traditional skills and ways of life would continue to have their place.

Furthermore, conventional skills provide innovative ideas to the development of modern technologies. For example, sparkled by how the word “Love” is traditionally knitted into a sweater by some ethnic minority women in some parts of Asia, some business managers from textile industry have developed some production lines by applying the traditional skills to Computer-Aided Designs (CAD). The products have boosted the companies’ sales which in turn have increased their investment in preserving traditional skills for further developing their technologies.

To conclude, traditional skills and life styles are increasingly becoming a useful alternative to the homogeneity brought by global applications of modern technologies. However, the evolution of technologies is a selection process, whereby some would become obsolete, but there is no doubt that some would thrive when their roles are appreciated.

Some people think that strict punishments for driving offences are the key to reducing traffic accidents. Others, however, believe that other measures would be more effective in improving road safety. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

People have differing views with regard to the question of how to make our roads safer. In my view, both punishments and a range of other measures can be used together to promote better driving habits.

On the one hand, strict punishments can certainly help to encourage people to drive more safely. Penalties for dangerous drivers can act as a deterrent, meaning that people avoid repeating the same offence. There are various types of driving penalty, such as small fines, licence suspension, driver awareness courses, and even prison sentences. The aim of these punishments is to show dangerous drivers that their actions have negative consequences. As a result, we would hope that drivers become more disciplined and alert, and that they follow the rules more carefully.

On the other hand, I believe that safe driving can be promoted in several different ways that do

not punish drivers. Firstly, it is vitally important to educate people properly before they start to drive, and this could be done in schools or even as part of an extended or more difficult driving test. Secondly, more attention could be paid to safe road design. For example, signs can be used to warn people, speed bumps and road bends can be added to calm traffic, and speed cameras can help to deter people from driving too quickly. Finally, governments or local councils could reduce road accidents by investing in better public transport, which would mean that fewer people would need to travel by car.

In conclusion, while punishments can help to prevent bad driving, I believe that other road safety measures should also be introduced.

题目:As well as making money, businesses also have social responsibilities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

范文:

Businesses have always sought to make a profit, but it is becoming increasingly common to hear people talk about the social obligations that companies have. I completely agree with the idea that businesses should do more for society than simply make money.

On the one hand, I accept that businesses must make money in order to survive in a competitive world. It seems logical that the priority of any company should be to cover its running costs, such as employees’ wages and payments for buildings and utilities. On top of these costs, companies also need to invest in improvements and innovations if they wish to remain successful. If a company is unable to pay its bills or meet the changing needs of customers, any concerns about social responsibilities become irrelevant. In other words, a company can only make a positive contribution to society if it is in good financial health.

On the other hand, companies should not be run with the sole aim of maximising profit; they have a wider role to play in society. One social obligation that owners and managers have is to treat their employees well, rather than exploiting them. For example, they could pay a “living wage” to ensure that workers have a good quality of life. I also like the idea that businesses could use a proportion of their profits to support local charities, environmental projects or education initiatives. Finally, instead of trying to minimise their tax payments by using accounting loopholes, I believe that company bosses should be happy to contribute to society through the tax system.

In conclusion, I believe that companies should place as much importance on their social responsibilities as they do on their financial objectives.

When a country develops its technology, the traditional skills and ways of life die out. It is pointless to try and keep them what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

首先我们找到题目问的是:what extent do you agree or disagree.

100% agree, 100% disagree, partly agree。

找到几个重要的关键词:country technology, traditional skill, ways of life, pointless, alive.

Computers are widely used in education and somepeople think teachers are not playing an importantrole in classroom. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

With more and more extensive use of computers ineducation, some people claim that the importanceattached to teachers has been , computers will replace teachers in theclassroom. However, it seems quite clear to me thatlearning from teachers is the most important waythat cannot be substituted for students.

Naturally, some people maintain that computer should instead of the old way of education. Theyhold that the strong function of the computer offers a new mode of education, which is moreinteresting, more vivid and more acceptable by children. The students will not face to theserious teachers and calm classes any more, which are replaced by a brand-new world offeredby the Internet. In addition, this can decrease the investment on the foundational educationand save the human resources and material resources.

As an assistant, computers do help teachers with their work, but they can never replace theimportant role of a real teacher. The main functions of any computer are storage andcalculation. It cannot think on its own anyway. All the teaching data stored in computers arethe essence of teaching experience generalized by many teachers during their work. Hence, toassist education, what a computer can do is just to repeat the contents summarized by realteachers.

In addition, each student has different talents and different defects, and accordingly, they maycome across various problems during their study. Computer programmer designing thesoftware, however, cannot predict these problems. Therefore, a single computer can neversolve these problems without a teacher’s guidance

Furthermore, if the significance of teacher has been weakened, the number of teachers may bedecreased, that is to say, many teachers may be laid-off. If such a case comes to reality, seriesof social problems will break out, such as the drop of working opportunity which will surelymake the burden of whole society become heavier and heavier.

Computers are widely used in education and somepeople think teachers are not playing an importantrole in classroom. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Computer, as the most powerful tool in 21 century,is widely used in education areas. Whethercomputers can instead of teachers become acontroversial issue. From my point, I don’t thinkcomputers can take the place of teachers.

First and foremost, computer cannot communicatewith students. Every human being has are not only teaching students knowledge but also showing their loves to studentswhen they are teaching. How to have a conversation with others and how to take care ofothers can be learned from teachers. For example, teacher can take you to the hospital whenyou are sick. In comparison, computers cannot likely to it.

Secondly, computers cannot help students when the get confused. Asking teachers is the bestway to do when students get any quires. However, computers do not have this is a two-way process, teachers can excite students’ imaginations and fire their creations.

Last but not least, computers cannot organize teaching activities instead of teachers. TakeEngland as an example, students need to do a lot of practical experiments, especially in physicsand chemistry. When they do these experiments, students usually work together as a groupand discuss with teachers. Team work is a very important part to shape students’ personalities.

From what has been discussed above, we might safely say that computers can never take theplace of teachers. We should always remember that human beings are the host of technologyand computer is a machine no matter how clever it is!

Modern people are living a disposable lifestyle in which the discarding of products that have not been used for a longer period of time is the norm. This essay will discuss why this is happening and what issues will be caused. There are two factors responsible for this trend. One of them is the rapid advancement of technology. Since the first Industrial Revolution, technology has been developing at an alarming rate, leading to the fact that products are becoming cheaper to manufacture and purchase, which makes it highly possible for consumers not to value what they possess compared with people decades ago. Another reason is that people are living in a consumer society which encourages purchases. In order to have a high selling volume to generate high profits, consumer psychology is used by merchants to design a range of tempting advertisements .Therefore, surrounded by such attractive information, people cannot help but to dump old products and buy new ones. This human behaviour, however, is likely to exert negative influences. For one thing, the environment is detrimentally impacted. With an increasing number of products thrown away, different parts need to be dealt with, but whatever method is employed, pollution is still caused. For example, landfill will take up massive areas of land, and some substances will not degrade for centuries. Also, incineration generates carbon dioxide, which damages the air quality. For another, keeping on throwing away old products and buying new items means that a great amount of money has to be spent. If this continues and people are unable to make enough money, they will find their life unaffordable. Some people make use of creditcards, but end up living in debts. In conclusion, the formation of a throw-away society is attributed to a jump in technological development and the appearance of a consumer society. Such a society, however, maylead to environmental degradation and a big financial burden on people’s daily life.

Nowadays, secondary school students in different parts of the globe are offered various education systems. In some nations, a general education where students are required to study a range of subjects is being provided, while in others students are exposed to a few subjects associated with a certain career. I believe that although the former system helps students understand what area really interests them, the latte is better for high school students in today’s world to find work.

It is certainly justified that students in high school should learn different subjects because most of them do not know where their interest lies; thus, their exposure to multiple subjects assists them in understanding what they have a longing forand in choosing what to specialise in their tertiary education. If a student finds he is enthusiastic about English and can achieve good grades in the exam but feels dull in maths lessons and fails the test, he will realise his strengths and weaknesses. When it comes to course selection in university, they will make a firm decision.

However, focusing on career-specific subjects is more meaningful because assistance can be given to students in increasing their employability and being able to lead a satisfactory life in the future. In such classes, not merely will theoretical knowledge be imparted but also internship opportunities can be provided, with which students are able to apply what they have learnt and then accumulate practical experience. Meanwhile, specialists are gaining increasing popularity in employers because they can increase the competitiveness of the business by creating innovations. Thus, it will be easy for students to seek employment and earn money after graduation.

In conclusion, I think that prioritising a narrow range of subjects related to a particular career is more beneficial to students’ future work and life due to a rise in their ability to work. However, I admit that many different subjects can allow them to know their real interests.

Although we can easily acquire knowledge from modern media like television and internet,I think it is not enough to prove that the teachers will lose their position in the future. Indeed, people can absorb a lot of knowledges from television and example ,some students now can watch many teaching videos on television and internet and they do not need to get these knowledge from modern software can even help students to make a suitable study is obvious that students do not need to listen to the fixed content in the classroom. However, are all students have the chance to get the knowledge that they want from television and internet? Many poor students cannot afford the cost of television or internet and some elders do not know how to use these various of knowledge from teacher is the best way for learning needs time to make the student cannot learn the new course if the courseware has not completed by the teacher. Even if television and internet can meet some needs of students but they cannot completely perform the effects of the fact, children also need to learn the method of communication and how to become a good this aspect, teachers play an important role during the learning computer cannot completely achieve the teaching goal. To sum up, modern technologies can replace some of teachers' job. but considering other important parts in education, I do not believe this development can make teachers useless in the future.

In many countries, the number of elderly people is increasing fast. To what extent do the disadvantages outweigh the advantages?

Nowadays, owning to the improvement of living condition(这里习惯用复数), people can live much longer than before, which gives rise to the fast increasing number of elderly people. Some hold that this situation will result in a series of problems, such as social burden, population expansion and so on. While others insist that it agrees the development of modern society and brings many advantages. For my part, I take the latter side with(用for) the following reasons: (74words)

Firstly, elder people(一会儿elderly people,一会儿又elder people,这不是自相矛盾么!!!) are the fortune of our society. They have enough experiences and capabilities which are badly lacked and needed for our youth when dealing with all sorts of problems, they can still do well in their jobs. Especially(前面应该用逗号,然后这里小写) in some professions, such as teacher, doctor, scientist and so on, sometimes (前面应该用句号,然后这里大写)age means the authority and ability. When you see a doctor, do you prefer an elderly doctor with grey hair or a youth without mustache? (77words)

Secondly, elder people(同上) are the happiness of our society. Increasing number of elderly people is also the embodiment of our improving living quality, which shows our society run(应该第三人称单数)to the right and healthy direction, we(前面句号,这里大写) have more chance and time to serve our elderly people, and it’s the happiest time of all our life to accompany with(accompany是及物动词) our parents, grandparents and great grandparents. (63words)

Finally, elderly people are the lubricant of our society. They have good temper and enough patients(应该是patience吧) to do anything, they can help us to intercede(它是不及物动词,而且主要用人作宾语) social disputes, and they make our society much more harmonious which(前面较好有个逗号)makes for the construction of harmonious society.(43words)

From mentioned above, the advantages of increasing number of elderly people are obvious more than it disadvantages(典型的Chinese English.应该说there are obviously more advantages than disadvantages.). Elderly people are not the burden of our society but the source of fortune, happiness and harmony of our society.(37words)

Nowadays, in most cities across the globe, many people opt to live in big apartment buildings. In my opinion, this type of accommodation has far more benefits than drawbacks. Let me explain in more detail.

To begin with, one of the main advantages of big apartment buildings is that they help in lowering housing prices. As more and more people move to cities for a better life, city authorities will struggle to accommodate them if they don’t build large apartment buildings.

For instance, the Japanese city of Tokyo tackled the problem of high housing prices by building big apartment buildings. As a result, Tokyo has now one of the cheapest housing prices in the world. All in all, big apartment buildings help stabilize the housing markets.

Another benefit of big apartment buildings is that they help people come together as communities. It is very easy for them to socialize and make friends as they live closer to each other. For example, in 2010, a survey which was conducted in Australia found that people who live in apartment buildings are more sociable than those who live in houses and other types of accommodation. Also they experience less loneliness than people living in standalone houses. In addition, apartments are safer and have a lot of amenities that houses do not have. For example, they may have club houses, swimming pools and gyms.

To sum up, I strongly believe that big apartment buildings have more benefits than drawbacks. They make housing more affordable and bring people together.

http:// many cities the use of video cameras in public places is being increased in order to reduce crime, but some people believe that these measures restrict our individual freedom.Do the benefits of increased security outweigh the drawbacks?

It is true that video surveillance has become commonplace in many cities in recent years. While I understand that critics may see this as an invasion of privacy, I believe that the benefits do outweigh the drawbacks.

There are two main reasons why people might disapprove of the use of video cameras in public places. The first objection is that these cameras invade our privacy, in the sense that we are constantly being watched by the authorities or by private security firms. Many people find this intrusive and feel that the recording of their movements is a form of state control that curtails their individual freedom. The second argument against the proliferation of CCTV cameras is that they are being used as an alternative to police officers patrolling the streets. If this is indeed happening, then it is unlikely that members of the public will feel safer.

In spite of the drawbacks mentioned above, I believe that the use of video cameras to monitor public areas is a positive measure. The key objective of video surveillance is to deter criminals and to prevent crime. For example, petty criminals like shoplifters and pickpockets are less likely to operate in parts of cities where they know that they are being watched. At the same time, when crimes are committed, the police can use video evidence to catch and prosecute offenders. Therefore, in my view, video cameras offer valuable support to police officers, and they make cities safer for inhabitants, workers and visitors alike.

In conclusion, it seems to me that we gain more than we lose from the enhanced security that CCTV cameras bring to our cities.

题目:Wild animals have no place in the 21st century, so protecting them is a waste of resources. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

范文:

Some people argue that it is pointless to spend money on the protection of wild animals because we humans have no need for them. I completely disagree with this point of view.

In my opinion, it is absurd to argue that wild animals have no place in the 21st century. I do not believe that planet Earth exists only for the benefit of humans, and there is nothing special about this particular century that means that we suddenly have the right to allow or encourage the extinction of any species. Furthermore, there is no compelling reason why we should let animals die out. We do not need to exploit or destroy every last square metre of land in order to feed or accommodate the world’s population. There is plenty of room for us to exist side by side with wild animals, and this should be our aim.

I also disagree with the idea that protecting animals is a waste of resources. It is usually the protection of natural habitats that ensures the survival of wild animals, and most scientists agree that these habitats are also crucial for human survival. For example, rainforests produce oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide and stabilise the Earth’s climate. If we destroyed these areas, the costs of managing the resulting changes to our planet would far outweigh the costs of conservation. By protecting wild animals and their habitats, we maintain the natural balance of all life on Earth.

In conclusion, we have no right to decide whether or not wild animals should exist, and I believe that we should do everything we can to protect them.

More and more people are migrating to cities in search of a better life, but city life can be extremely difficult. Explain some of the difficulties of living in a city. How can governments make urban life better for everyone?

范文:

Cities are often seen as places of opportunity, but there are also some major drawbacks of living in a large metropolis. In my opinion, governments could do much more to improve city life for the average inhabitant.

The main problem for anyone who hopes to migrate to a large city is that the cost of living is likely to be much higher than it is in a small town or village. Inhabitants of cities have to pay higher prices for housing, transport, and even food. Another issue is that urban areas tend to suffer from social problems such as high crime and poverty rates in comparison with rural areas. Furthermore, the air quality in cities is often poor, due to pollution from traffic, and the streets and public transport systems are usually overcrowded. As a result, city life can be unhealthy and stressful.

However, there are various steps that governments could take to tackle these problems. Firstly, they could invest money in the building of affordable or social housing to reduce the cost of living. Secondly, politicians have the power to ban vehicles from city centres and promote the use of cleaner public transport, which would help to reduce both air pollution and traffic congestion. In London, for example, the introduction of a congestion charge for drivers has helped to curb the traffic problem. A third option would be to develop provincial towns and rural areas, by moving industry and jobs to those regions, in order to reduce the pressure on major cities.

In conclusion, governments could certainly implement a range of measures to enhance the quality of life for all city residents.

Housing problems are closely related to people’s overall well-being. However, experience tells us that individuals and private corporations tend to act in their own short-term economic and political interest, not on behalf of the public at large. For this reason, and because housing problems are generally large in scale, I agree that only government can ensure citizens will not have no abode to live in.

With the rapid development of industry and great increase in employment, more people are swarming into cities. Accommodations have become ever difficult, causing inconvenience to people’s work and life. For this, There are some methods that government can use to solve this problem. Firstly, the government can appeal to property developers to establish more and more apartments in the suburbs. The fresh air and clean water will attract some people to move to the other side to go. More importantly, the suburban house prices will be much cheaper than the city. Secondly, the government can control prices. If the property prices are too high, many people can not afford a deposit and a mortgage. Last but not least, the government can provide state or council housing. This help people who can not afford to buy their own house.

By contrast, neither property developers nor other organizations are willing or able to voluntarily make the short-term sacrifices necessary to tackle this problem. Only the government holds the regulatory and enforcement power to impose the necessary standards and to ensure that we settle the matter.

In the final analysis, only the authority and scope of power that a government possesses can ensure the attainment of agreed-upon housing problems solving goals. Because individuals are unable and businesses are by nature unwilling to assume this responsibility, only government can do so.

Some people think that all teenagers should be required to do unpaid work in their free time to help the local community. They believe this would benefit both the individual teenager and society as a you agree or disagree?

范文;

Many young people work on a volunteer basis, and this can only be beneficial for both the individual and society as a whole. However, I do not agree that we should therefore force all teenagers to do unpaid work.

Most young people are already under enough pressure with their studies, without being given the added responsibility of working in their spare time. School is just as demanding as a full-time job, and teachers expect their students to do homework and exam revision on top of attending lessons every day. When young people do have some free time, we should encourage them to enjoy it with their friends or to spend it doing sports and other leisure activities. They have many years of work ahead of them when they finish their studies.

At the same time, I do not believe that society has anything to gain from obliging young people to do unpaid work. In fact, I would argue that it goes against the values of a free and fair society to force a group of people to do something against their will. Doing this can only lead to resentment amongst young people, who would feel that they were being used, and parents, who would not want to be told how to raise their children. Currently, nobody is forced to volunteer, and this is surely the best system.

In conclusion, teenagers may choose to work for free and help others, but in my opinion we should not make this compulsory.

We can find what we want on internet such as latest news, books, songs, movies and so on. With radio, we can merely hear. Compared with newspaper, radio and television can provide the lastest information. For instance, it was immediately availalbe of the breaking news of the Americans’ attacking on Iraq, as well as that the Twin Towers of New York were destroyed on September 11, 2001. However, we just cannot carry television.

Internet is a convinient way of getting information, as long as your mobile phone is connected or you possess a laptop. When I am on a vehicle, I usually have my cellphone connected to internet, then browse what happend in the past few hours, or begin a conversation with my friends.
