How to deal with the setbacks

We’ve all hit that bump in the road, the setback, the problem. What sets people apart is how they react to that bump. Are you one to spin out of control, in despair? You just have to keep in mind that a setback is only temporary and greater things lay ahead.

It is easy just to quit, give up and ignore the hard work you have put into something. But at SparkPeople, we believe in the “two steps forward, one step back” philosophy. So what if something bad happens? Keep moving forward, developing what you have. You’ve already built a solid foundation on which you can rely. Hard work can’t be overlooked.

So how can you react when something doesn’t turn out as you’ve expected? First, be objective. Step back and look at the situation. Take responsibility where it is due, but don’t place blame on others. Is your setback really that significant, or will it just require a little extra exertion on your part? Come to terms with it and then start planning your next move. Ask for help. Don’t be afraid or ashamed to do this. Oftentimes, people are more than willing to give you support and advice, maybe even after being in a similar situation. You don’t have to be perfect; after all, nobody else is.

Bounce back. Reevaluate the goals you should have set for yourself at the beginning and retool them as necessary. Goals should be realistic and specific, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be flexible and are allowed for minor impediments. Instead of looking at your project as a disaster or failure, view it with success. Concentrate on how great it will feel after it is finally done, after you have put your all into it. Instead of focusing on a possible unsatisfactory performance one single time, take a moment to sit back and reward yourself for all that you have accomplished.

Above all, don’t live with regrets. Approach life with perseverance and dedication to the things that matter most to you. Success is never easy. It remains up to you whether you will give up, or fight through the tough battles to earn whatever it is you want.

A fragment of a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson is telling:

“Finish each day And be done with it.

You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in. Forget them as soon as you can.”

Move on with your life. Keep reaching for your goals and you will achieve them. One minor setback is nothing if you really want something and are willing to work for it.

掌握思考分析的规律，逻辑谨严地展开论述，文章就可能导向深刻。而现在中学生中常犯的“无序”，表现为将与论题相关的素材无序地叠加，

“言之有文”，本该是为文章的内容配以最恰到好处的形式。

“言之有新”，则是新课标中反复强调之“创造性”，鼓励学生在平时作文中敢于出新，而经过砥砺之后的“创见”。思想真有个性创见，欲与人争鸣的一种“不吐不快”。“创新”是一个“思考-切磋-再思考”的过程，而非心血来潮，标新立异。这样的训练过程，也能培养学生追求真知的精神，是议论文训练特有之功能。

教育的功能是让学生理解、喜欢、乐意接受，正确指导学生自己去体会。叶圣陶先生也说过“语文教学的最终目的是要使学生自己能读书，不待老师讲；自己能作文，不待老师改。”可见，老师的职责不仅是让学生掌握知识，更重要的要教给学生好的学习方法和作文方法。

对于议论文基础薄弱并缺乏兴趣更怕写作的初中学生，如何让他们能达到《大纲》要求，具备简单的议论能力呢?我的教学实践经验是通过“渐进式”的系列教学策略，可达到目的。

1从学生生活中来，激起写议论文的兴趣

前苏联教育家苏霍姆林斯基说：“所有智力方面的工作都要依赖于兴趣。”这告诉我们兴趣是人们爱好某种活动或力求认识某种活动或力求认识某种事物的倾向，这种倾向又是和一定的情感联系着。学习兴趣，则学生对于学习活动或学习对象的一种力争趋近或认识的倾向，它是学生的情感、态度在学习活动上的选择，是内在动机在学习上的外部体现之一。可见，学习兴趣是推动学习的首要内部动力。因此，要让学生学习写好议论文，首先要培养学生对议论文的兴趣。所以在教学议论文时，不要先教给名词术语、框框条条，使学生厌烦，失去学习的兴趣，可以这样告诉学生：父母平时对自己的教导，各科老师的授课，每周一升旗后国旗下的讲话及校长、主任、值周老师的讲话，若写成文章，都是不错的议论文。想想吧，就是你们自己与同学的好些谈话，如果写在作文本上，往往就是一篇较好的议论文。现在就请每一位同学把自己忘不去的一件事说给同桌听，想怎么说就怎么说。这样学生当然感兴趣啦。教室内会出现人人动口，眉飞色舞，有的还辅以手势的活跃气氛。说完了，自己想想，你说了对事情的看法吗?说了，就是议论呀!现在把你刚才对同桌说的话写在作文本上，只有一个要求，把事情写得概括一点把看法写得详尽一点，并教给学生最简单的议论方法，不要把一件事叙完了才议，而是应该边叙边议，也就是在叙的过程中有了对所叙人或事的看马上写出来，写完了再接着叙。这样把说和写、动口和动手联系起来，打下了基础活跃了思想，使学生感到有材料可写，有话可说，在叙叙议议，议议叙叙中调动起了学生学习议论文的积极性。

2从现行教材中来，模仿入门

说到模仿，也许有人会认为不可取，但对于写作水平较低的初中生来说，我认为是可取的，有时还是必要的，这跟学书法要临贴、学戏要跟唱是一个道理。茅盾先生就说过：“模仿是创造的第一步，模仿又是学习的最初形式。”没有模仿，何来创造，不“入格”怎么“出格”?(笔者曾有教研论文《作文教学中的仿写》，对模仿作文作了较全面的诠释)世界大文学豪鲁迅先生的《狂人日记》不就是模仿了果戈里的《狂人日记》么?用鲁迅先生的话来说，没有模仿就没有创造，在模仿中不断增加创造的因素。叶圣陶先生曾指出：“语文教材无非是个例子，凭这个例子要使学生能举一反三，练习阅读和作文的技巧。”我国现行“九义”教材都是经过专家精心挑选的，每篇课文后都有“揣摩运用”，每单元后又安排了“作文训练”，而且还有参考题目，《同步训练》中还有作文的例文。其目的之一就是供学生欣赏、仿效和借鉴，为什么不让教材给学生引路呢?

社会心理学家认为：模仿是社会生活人类历史文化继承的普遍现象和必要的手段，是仿效一定的榜样，自觉或不自觉地做出类似动作的行为模式的过程。如在教学《畏惧错误就是毁灭进步》时，我就鼓励学生不畏惧分析时的错误，不畏惧发言时的错误，大胆收集能证明本文论点的名言去调换课文中的名言，然后进行口头阐述。在教学《理想的阶梯》时，又让学生收集与本文论点相应的事实论据去调换课文中的事实论据，然后进行笔作练习。这样的训练，学生脑、手、口并用，既加深了对课文内容的理解，又有助于培养用事实论据和道理论据的能力，在不知不觉中学会了议论文的写作，掌握了一定技巧，提高了作文水平。

事实上，学生在作了以上口头和笔作模仿作文后，就懂得了：

①文章的题目、观点以至展开论证的层次顺序，全都是针对着、对应着社会生活中存在的问题而构思出来的。写议论文总是为了讨论或解答社会生活或人们思想中提出的问题。如果把议论文比作“箭”，那么这些问题就是“靶”。写议论文一定要有“的”放矢，而不能脱离生活，从理论讲到理论。

②事实胜于雄辩。事例论证是议论文最基本的论证方法。选择的事例和所要论证的观点之间，都有明确的对应关系，同一观点所使用的几个事例又都各有其代表性或侧重面。在写作议论文中，要注意选择事例，做到事例和观点一致，防止事例和观点脱节，而要做到这一点，就必须在平时关心社会生活，养成积累材料的习惯。否则，就会犯例不不当论或空话连篇的错误。

至于议论的三要素，议论文最基本的两在结构，论据的两种基本形式，论证的三种方式，论证常见的四种方法等有关议论文的知识，教师只稍一导，学生就能掌握了。这样变老师讲学生听为学生讲老师导，学生无压力，乐意接受，又能理解，跳出了传统教育的低迷状态，学生智力得了最大限度的发挥，学习写议论文的积极性又会提高，这不是事半功倍吗?

3回到生活中去，探究创新

《新大纲》在“教学中要重视的问题”中明确指出：“要重视学生思维能力的发展……尤其要重视培养学生的创造性思维。”“鼓励运用探究性的学习方式。”我们知道，学生的创新意识、创新精神和创新能力不是天生的，它虽然和人的天赋有一定的联系但主要是后天的培养和教育的结果。学生的创新意识、创新精神和创新能力主要表现在他们如何创造性地学习语文知识，创造性地应用所学知识去解决生活中面临的实际问题，所以，在学生们具备了较扎实的议论文基础知识后，就应鼓励他们产生求新、求异的想法，大胆地对学校生活、家庭生活、社会生活中的现象进行评析。我依据初二学生的年龄特征和认识水平，设计了一些探索性和开放性的问题，给学生提供自主探究的机会。如在班上举行演讲比赛，确定主题，自己写稿，演讲后让学生们进行评析，无论是演讲者、评析者都能由小及大、由表及里、由此及彼谈人生、论招聘；由上台的都是女生，谈到男生不刻苦、怕羞，就多锻炼：由视力的好坏谈到了如何保护眼睛及怎样用不同的方法保护不同的器官，懂得了珍惜生命。学生们摆事实讲道理，有论有据，作文普遍达到800字以上。对于教材他们也敢质疑，如同属读后感的《读一位xxx员的遗嘱》和《壮丽人生的最后闪光》，他们就认为前一篇以记叙这种表达方式为主，不属议论文。

从这些反馈信息看，学生们的创造性思维已经开始培养起来。只要我们在教学内容的选择和教学方法的确定上，尽力为学生的创造性学习提供帮助，相信学生们的创造潜能会被开发出来。这样培养出来的学生才是符合时代要求的合格人才，当然也就达到了《大纲》的要求。
